Trail Hike: Schaeffer Farm | Poolesville Seniors

We will meet at 14920 Schaffer Farm Trailhead at 9 am on Wednesday, October 15 for a 6.2 mile hike of a little over 2 1/2 hours. Although the hike is mostly flat with elevation gains of 367 feet, this hike is for intermediate hikers. There is a bathroom at the trailhead that is accessible. Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can get started promptly at 9 am.

The trail is mostly packed dirt, tree roots and minimal rocks. There are 2 relatively easy water crossings. In addition to a lovely hike in a wooded area, there will be some traversing in several corn fields. This is a “lollipop” hike covering part of the white, yellow and blue trails. Rain date is October 22.

Directions: From Route 28 (Darnestown Rd) turn on to White Ground Rd and drive for 4.1 miles. Take a right turn on Schaeffer Rd and drive 1.7 miles. There is a sign for Schaeffer Farm Trailhead and you will reach it in 1.8 miles. There is plenty of parking and a bathroom.
